Etceteras: vitamin bottle organization

On any given day, this is what my counter looks like... I know, terrible.

We tend to leave out vitamin bottles and daily medication so we don’t forget to take it. I can’t stand the clutter and decided to do something about it.

Why I didn’t think of this sooner I’ll never know. I used spice jars and printed out vintage pharmacy labels – courtesy of the Graphics Fairy.

I added some fun names for our vitamins and medicine, like, Old Bone Remedy (calcium), Yummy Gummy Vitamins (children's vitamins), Old Lady Vitamins (those would be my vitamins) and Anti-Sneezing Medicine (allergy medicine).

I covered the tops with kraft paper and baker’s twine. Then I Mod Podged the label and tops. Note: I wouldn’t recommend this with small children since the spice jar tops aren’t child-proof.

I love how they look on my counter now – like an old-fashioned pharmacy counter.

  1. Carolyn, you are so adorable, & you are DEFINITELY not an 'old lady'! LOL! But your idea is super & I fully intend to do my must-take meds the same way because it looks 100 times better than the ugly old original containers! If there were awards for most do-able and beautiful projects on a blog, you would win, hands down! HUGS!

  2. Very cute idea! I love the labels and love how you finished them off with the cute wording and the cute tops.

I did a similar project with Tide and Clorox bottles (and Graphics Fairy graphics). Her graphics make even the mundane products beautiful!

    Thanks for sharing!

  10. That is so cute! I know all about those bottles being so ugly that I stick them in the cupboard and then forget to take them. This is so much better. Tumblr-ed it to not forget about it.

  26. Carolyn, another beautifully done, artful project! I was just looking at my own collection of vitamins this morning (in an ugly shoebox on my dresser) and chastised myself for the eyesore I'd created. The vintage labels would definitely be a better compliment to my decor than the Costco sized drums of drugs currently taking up real estate in my room.

Thank you so much for being a part of "A Little Birdie Told Me..." Tuesday at Rook No. 17.

    Best,
    Jenn

  31. Love it, but I would be careful about how much light these bottles receive. The reason they are in ugly white bottles is so the light doesn't effect the storage of the Vitamins, you don't want to take ineffective medication or vitamins.

  32. This is so pretty and such a nice way to make the stuff you have to have look like some luxurious, super-fancy home decor! I love it and congrats on the feature at HOH - I saw you and got excited it was a blogger I knew!

  35. Very cute. But as a nurse, I cringe. I hope you have a list somewhere as to what everything is and how often you take it in case you aren't able to tell someone and they need to know. Sorry, just have seen this happen many times before.

  36. Thank you everyone for so many nice comments.

To answer questions about the bottles:
The bottles were from an old set of spice jars that I no longer use. I'm not sure where they sell them. Maybe Target or any other store that sells kitchen products. You could also recycle any type of jar for this project.
    Thanks!

  37. Love, love, love this idea! Way too cute and functional at the same time. Can't wait to do this ... hobby stores sell all kinds of glass, lidded jars that would work perfectly.

Good idea to keep an inventory of your medications as Anonymous mentioned.

Looking forward to transferring my frequently used Rx's to cute labeled bottles! Thanks so much!

  41. This is adorable! I never would have thought of that. One of the things I love about coming here!!

  42. Adorable! I have pinned, tweeted, facebooked and stumbled. (I'm not sure there is anything left to do on this post.)

However: I would definitely keep the original bottles with information regarding ingredients, mgs, frequency etc. You never know when you'll need to give it to a pharmacist or doctor for potential interactions, etc.

  43. I love this! I was tipped to it by Vivienne. I was cleaning off our dresser this morning and came across my very unattractive calcium chews box and lamented that I didn't have a cute way to organize it. Now I do! Great idea!
