Etceteras: branch spools

I still have some branches left in our yard trimming pile.

I’ve made several projects with them including this photo holder and wood tacks.

I love the texture of these branches and wanted to use them for a new project. I came up with these branch spools for my twine.

I sawed sections of the branch into ¼ inch slices. I used a hand saw because I haven’t mastered power tools and maybe never will.

I glued a dowel to the inside of the branch slices to create a spool.

Pretty decorative spools that combine two of my favorite things - natural wood and twine.

  7. Those spools rock! Very cool idea. I like them better than the vintage spools I am seeing around. I highlighted this at somedaycrafts.blogspot.com.

  10. Adorable & very creative! I'm thinking add a slit to make cute wedding place card holders? Too bad there aren't many branches in LA. Visiting from Homemaker on a Dime =)
