Celebrations: red bandana bbq sticks

The summer barbeque plans continue from yesterday. Once your invitations are sent out, start making your barbeque buffet accessories.

These grill sticks are perfect if you’re making steaks. As the steaks come off the grill, mark them “well done”, “medium” or” medium rare”. If you’re not making steaks, change the flags to describe what you’ve grilled - chicken, fish, veggies.

Keep the theme going with these cute corn on the cob sticks. Add a scrap of red bandana to each stick.

See you tomorrow for more summer barbeque ideas.

Celebrations: red bandana bbq invitations

Today, in the United States, it’s Memorial Day. A day when we honor U.S. soldiers who have died in war.

................................................................

Unofficially, the 3-day Memorial Day weekend means the beginning of summer. Flags wave and the barbeque season begins.

If you’re planning a summer barbeque party, start off with cute invitations. I made these summer barbeque invitations using pool blue cardstock and a piece of a red bandana in the corner.

I’ll be posting ideas for my red bandana summer barbeque all this week.

So come back tomorrow and check out the party preparations.

The Inspiration Board: spring to summer

It’s still spring - the flowers are blooming, baby birds are chirping and we even had a little rain in my area.

This collage of photos captures spring for me. The large photo is from my mother’s day table setting. The two smaller pictures are flowers in my garden after a recent rain.

But summer is definitely around the corner. Kids are eager for summer vacation and the weather is warming up day by day. I created a mini inspiration board from photos I took of objects on hand. These are the colors I’m thinking about as we head into summer.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend filled with pastels and bright colors.

Sew and Tell: crocheting 101

I started crocheting! Last week I shared a Show and Tell on crocheting and mentioned that I was planning on giving it a try.

Michelle over at The Royal Sisters left me a comment with a link to her free tutorials. Not only does she do beautiful work, she has very nice photos and step-by-step instructions.

Here’s one of her blankets.

And more of her beautiful work.

And here are mine…

It was a bumpy start but I watched a few videos and found a pattern that claimed to be easy. Most of the instructions are still like a foreign language to me but I managed to make a few practice squares.

I can see how crocheting can become addicting. What’s nice is you can make a square here and there when you have time.

Show and Tell: chocolate, chocolate, chocolate

I must have been craving chocolate when I was deciding what to share with you for Show and Tell this week.

My first stop was The Answer is Chocolate. Carol at The Answer is Chocolate made these beautiful chocolate covered strawberries and cookies.
The Answer is Chocolate is great source for chocolately goodies and recipes but also wonderful crafts.

Check out these chocolate covered oreos. They’re little works of art. You can find these at Shindigs Parties to Go.

Suzy over at Suzy’s Sitcom made a zero calorie chocolate pincushion. They look good enough to eat!

I'm amazed at these lattice chocolate cups from Childmade. They are so pretty with the fresh fruit and don't look too difficult to make.
Also, since there’s fruit involved, the chocolate calories don’t count. This is definitely on my summer list.

Celebrations: candy necklace

Do you remember candy necklaces?  They were little discs of candy on an elastic string. From what I remember, they weren’t very good.

Here’s a simple do it yourself candy necklace that would be a great party favor for a child’s birthday.

I chose Lemonhead candies because summer is just around the corner and the lemony yellow color would make a great summer party theme. They’re also a nice shape to wrap and not sticky.

To make a candy necklace, cut a strip of cello wrap about 2” wide by 36” (the length of the roll). Line up your candies and twist the cello wrap around each piece of candy. Tie the twisted part with ribbon or string. Leave enough string on each end to tie the necklace together.

You can use jelly beans, gummies, gum balls – whatever matches your party theme. Each guest will have a fun necklace to wear home and eat later.
