Celebrations: ribbon roll advent calendar

Every year I try to come up with a different type of advent calendar or Christmas countdown. This one doesn’t involve treats so it won’t be very popular at my house. But that’s okay – I like it.

This year I made a ribbon roll up or ribbon “unroll” countdown.

The ribbon is rolled up on a tube and each day we will unroll just enough to show the date. By Christmas morning, the entire ribbon will be unrolled.

To make this ribbon roll up countdown, I cut a piece of holiday red ribbon and created the numbers in Word. I used light weight printer paper so that the paper numbers would roll up with the ribbon. The numbers were cut out with a one inch circle punch.

Each date was decorated with fun holiday embellishments – snowflakes, stars and rhinestones.

The tube was in my stash and it’s about 1/2 inch in diameter and very sturdy. I can’t recall what it was from but I tend to save little goodies like tubes and containers (anyone else hoard strange things?) I covered the tube in scrapbook paper. Using a regular wire hanger, I cut about 4 inches off the bottom wire, inserted the tube and then reshaped it so that the hanger would be smaller.

Here it is unrolled. It’s really long – it was hard to get a photo of the entire ribbon.

And so, the countdown begins…

Thanks for visiting.
