Good Taste: Martha Stewart treat boxes & my best brownies

I’ve been making these brownies for years. Decades actually.

Martha Stewart Treat Boxes-001 RecipeThey were one of the first things I learned to bake and I submitted the recipe to my elementary school cookbook. You know, those cookbooks that schools sell for fundraisers. I still have the original cookbook – it’s getting really beat up but I love it. The pages were all typed on a typewriter by the mothers and the artwork is hand drawn. On page 175 is my “best and easiest brownie” recipe.

They’re a rich fudgy brownie. There’s very little flour so they aren't a cake-like brownie but really dense and chocoately. Mmmmmm.

Here’s the recipe:

2 oz. unsweetened chocolate
1 cube butter (1/2 cup)
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla

Melt chocolate and butter in the microwave or in a double boiler; add sugar and stir. Remove from heat and add eggs one at a time beating well after each egg. Add flour and salt gradually; add vanilla. Bake in a greased and floured 8” x 8” pan at 325 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Note: I just just a wooden spoon to mix up these brownies not an electric mixer.

To make these simple brownies extra special, I’m packaging them in the Martha Stewart Candy Cane Matchbox treat boxes. Aren’t they cute?

Each set comes with 6 treat boxes, tissue, ribbon and labels.

Martha Stewart Treat BoxesThere’s an assortment of designs and box types that will make your baked goods look extra special.  The Cottage Christmas Compartment Treat Boxes have four sections, all in one box and the Wonderland Bakeable Trays are pretty and functional, you can bake right in these trays.
