The Inspiration Board: link party [100]

From my archives ~ lemon drop necklace

Welcome to 100TH INSPIRATION BOARD LINK PARTY. I honestly can't believe it! I remember my fist link party - I was so worried that no one would link up but people did and have kept coming week after week. My party isn't one of the big 500-plus link up parties but that's okay... it's just the right amount of guests that this hostess can accommodate. I can still go through the links, visit sites and personally handpick the features.

To celebrate the 100th Inspiration Board, I'm offering a giveaway of a one-month ad spot on my sidebar. It can be for your blog, shop or business {must of course be family friendly}. Enter by using the giveaway widget below.

Extra Credit: living in southern california

7434_102691153076036_2271586_nIf you follow along, you may recall that I’ve mentioned that I live in Southern California. Los Angeles to be exact and to be even more exact, West Los Angeles very close to the beach. The trade off for biking distance to the beach, cool breezes, mild winters and plenty of sunshine is a smaller house. When we were first house hunting, we considered a larger house in different areas but both my husband and myself were willing to sacrifice square footage for the beautiful surroundings and mild weather.

Good Taste: acorn squash & wild rice casserole

Acorn Squash and Wild Rice Casserole via homework | carolynshomework.comWhen we think about casseroles, we, or at least I, usually remember the wonderful casseroles that my mom used to make. One-dish wonders that were creamy and oh-so good. Cooking styles have evolved and so have casseroles. Oh, don’t get my wrong, I still love an old-fashioned comfort food casserole. But there are so many new ingredients and ideas for casseroles these days.

Sew & Tell: freshening the patio for spring

It’s definitely spring in my neck of the woods. The weather went from gloomy to fresh and sunny recently. Although I was ready for the change in seasons, my patio wasn’t. The cushions and pillows on my patio furniture have had it. They were old, faded and dingy. I would show you a picture but honestly, they were so bad it’s horrifying.

The Inspiration Board: spotlight {98}

Happy Friday friends! Another whirlwind week here on homework. I’ve been working on a lot of new projects and fun things for the warmer weather. One of my bigger projects is to fix up our patio with new cushions and pillows. I just have to clear away a few more things on my craft desk so I have room to bust out my sewing machine! I can’t wait to freshen up my dingy patio.

While I’m trying to remember how to thread my sewing machine, enjoy these projects in the spotlight this week.

Inkling: paper clip & junk mail bracelet

Paper Clip and Junk Mail Bracelet via homework | carolynshomework.comMaking a paperclip chain or bracelet has been around for probably as long as paperclips. I saw a fun paperclip bracelet here that took the paperclip chain to a new level by wrapping paper around each clip to form paper beads.

The Dirt: a simple avocado seed gift

Avocado Seed 4-001The other day, I had the best avocado I’ve ever had. It was so perfect – ripe, creamy with none of those weird bruised parts. I love avocados. You can use them in sandwiches, make guacamole, add them to salads or top off traditional Mexican dishes with them. And what would a California Roll be without the avocado?

Etceteras: inspired by turquoise {crackle paint}

I’ve been experimenting with different crackle paint methods. Awhile back, I tried out the Elmer’s Glue process on this little bird. The crackles were quite large and I wanted to make something with fine crackles.

Good Taste: potatoes au gratin

Potatoes, taters, spuds, Mr. Potato… no matter what you call them, potatoes are a staple in many households. My family loves potatoes. Baked and mashed potatoes are quick and easy side dishes that seem to go with everything. These Potatoes Au Gratin are another family favorite and they always make an appearance at our Easter brunch. This year, I baked up these Potatoes Au Gratin in individual bowls.

Extra Credit: spring cleaning inspiration

This post brought to you by Dollar General. All opinions are 100% mine.

After the holidays I was gung ho on spring cleaning. I tackled some big jobs like the wood blinds that are all over my house, the screens that have been collecting dirt and dust all winter and dust bunnies that keep multiplying and hiding.

homework: reading {paper blooms}

Paper Flower Jar Lids – from my archives

I’ve made several paper flower projects here on homework. I love working with the different paper colors and textures and turning them into fun embellishments or using them for décor.
