AU NATURALE: Fall Wreath & (The Wreath Depot Giveaway)

Fall Wreath - The Wreath Depot via homework (1)I mentioned awhile back that I started working full time again. My time for crafting and decorating is very limited. I work on blog projects and posts in the morning before work, after work and on weekends. But I always seem to be playing beat the clock and I haven’t had anything pretty in advance of the current season in a long time.

Kids are most likely back in school or will be by next week and the evenings are turning cool. Yes, fall is around the corner.

So while I enjoy the last day of “summer” I thought I’d share some Labor Day recipe ideas and as we look forward to fall, some fall décor projects. See you tomorrow for The Inspiration Board Creative Party friends!

Celebrations: The Owls Have Landed {Halloween Décor}

Halloween Owl Decor via homework | carolynshomework.comI usually like to wait until October 1st to break out the Halloween décor but since tomorrow is The Inspiration Board creative party, I’m starting a day early. Considering some malls already have holiday décor up, I think it’s okay.

Etceteras: DIY Faux Amber Glass

DIY Faux Amber Glass | homeworkI wanted to add some pops of color to my fall décor and thought some amber colored glass would be the perfect accent. You  have probably seen many variations of coloring glass jars on craft sites and blogs. I’ve tried several methods and my favorite technique is using food coloring and Mod Podge.

Celebrations: A Touch of Fall Decor

White, beige and silver fall decorThe starfish, shells and coral have been put away until next summer. All the pops of aqua are gone and I’m in pre-fall mode. Nothing gets me motivated for the upcoming season more than redecorating my dining room hutch. I don’t have a mantel so this is where I bring in seasonal décor.

ETCETERAS: Stash Buster Fall Wreath

Stash Buster Fall Wreath via homework (6)I’ve been dragging my feet about fall décor in my house but when it’s sweltering outside and you have no air conditioning (uh, we live by the coast), it’s hard to wrap your head around pies baking in the oven, pumpkins and fall foliage. One of the things on my list was to go to the craft store and pick up some supplies for a fall wreath. I had a few ideas in mind but as I continued to drag my feet about running this errand, I started digging through my seasonal floral supply box.

CELEBRATIONS: Seasons–Fall color Inspiration

Fall 6Now that Labor Day is behind us, I should be in full fall mode. The problem is – it’s hot! This happens every year. We live near the coast and it usually doesn’t really feel like summer until late August through October. In order to get myself excited for fall, I usually put together an inspiration board or idea book.
I dug through my seasonal craft supplies and cupboards to pull together some items that will hopefully get me moving on fall décor and thought I’d share my mood boards with you.

Au Naturale: acorns in the snow

A friend of mine recently mentioned all the deer and wildlife she’s been seeing while hiking the trails near her home. But what really caught my attention was the mention of all the acorns the wildlife are munching on.

Etceteras: faux wood leaves

I’m loving fall right now. Every time I open a magazine, I see dozens of great ideas and my project list is growing. This project was quick and easy so it made it to the top of the list and was quickly checked off.

Etceteras: getting ready for fall

I’m really trying to get in the mood for fall. But it’s really hard to get motivated when it’s still so hot outside. It’s sort of like shopping for sweaters when it’s 90 degrees outside.

Fresh Look: twine vase

Fall ideas are starting to pop up here and there and although in my mind it’s still “flip flop” season, I’m trying to think ahead for fall décor. One idea I had was to make a textured vase with twine and paint.

I made two vases but decided to leave one of them unpainted.

Twine Vase CollageI’ve seen a lot of projects where the twine is wrapped horizontally around and around the object but I decided to place my twine vertically. I cut several strips of twine and using Mod Podge, glued them on one by one.

Once the glue was dry, I trimmed the twine at top edge.

This vase is the unpainted version. I liked the natural look of the twine.

This vase is spray painted giving it a completely different look.

I like both versions – what do you think? Painted or unpainted?

Thanks for visiting.

Etceteras: moss and pussy willow nest

I think a bird nest is a nice decorative touch no matter what the season. I typically display a bird’s nest in the spring when they’re naturally in season and home to a mama bird and her eggs.

I thought it would be fun to make a fall nest – temporarily abandoned and waiting for a new family in the spring.

The base of this nest is made out twine and paper mache paste. I made them last spring and you can get the instructions from my previous post here

To add an autumn feel to these nests, I added some moss, twigs and faux pussy willows.

I may fill this little nest with nuts and leaves or leave it empty until spring.
