Be My Guest: Will Cook for Smiles

I’m still on a little break but have such a treat for you today. Lyuba from Will Cook For Smiles has been a regular contributor to The Inspiration Board creative party for quite awhile. Her dishes and goodies are always amazing so I’m thrilled that she’s here today to share with you.

Hello to all of you, lovely readers of Carolyn's Homework! I'm Lyuba From Will Cook For Smiles! I'm happy to be here, giving Carolyn a little summer break! While I got your attention, I might as well share an awesome recipe with you.

Today, I'm sharing an amazing cookie recipe that I've been making for years. I love these cookies so much because they are not just chewy but also crispy! How, you ask? They are nicely chewy in the middle but sweet and crispy on the outside.

Be my guest: katycakes

I’m so pleased to tell you about katycakes. My friend Katy makes the most delicious baked goods. Trust me, I’ve sampled many, many of Katy’s bundt cakes and cupcakes.

Formerly with Bakesale, Katy is branching out on her own with delicious, fresh baked goodies. The only downside…katycakes is local in the Los Angeles area only. But if you live in the area or are visiting or have a friend in Los Angeles – check out katycakes.

Everything is made with the best ingredients and made with old-fashioned homemade care.

Here’s what Katy has to say:

Katycakes is not for lovers of "store bought cupcakes" with whirling twirling frosting dyed all the colors of the rainbow or for fans of mouthfuls of sculpted fondant on top of cakes that have spent a few days in the fridge

It is a culmination of lots of years of baking...with my grandmas, my mom and dad, my three wonderful sisters & a couple of very special cousins, and from a lot of late "sugary" nights tweaking my recipes until the cakes were super moist and the frostings buttery rich and creamy dreamy.

Thanks Katy and best of luck with katycakes.
Let me know if you need me to taste test anything!

The Inspiration Board: brookies, chicks and other good stuff

I recently had a birthday and boy, was I spoiled. I had to share all the goodies with you.

Brookies from my friend Vicky. These aren’t cupcakes. The bottom is a brownie, the middle is a cookie and the top is frosting. So good. I’m pretty sure the word “brookie” can be used in the same sentence as “devil” and “temptation”. Check out the recipe here on Martha Stewart.

My friend Linda let me scavenge her beautiful garden. Lookie what I got. I’m especially excited about the “chicks” from her Hens and Chicks plant. I can’t wait for my chicks to grow up and have chicks of their own.

The plant is called Hens and Chicks because the main plant, the hen, will produce little baby plants or chicks all around her. Here’s a nice blog article on Hens and Chicks.

Veggies from my neighbor’s garden. I will be posting up something made from these very soon.

The most beautiful flowers from my friends, C, J & B. Such good friends. I was overwhelmed.

My birthday cake. OK, I made this because it was also my son’s birthday. Cake decorating isn’t my forte but with my family the cake is gone so fast it would almost be a shame to spend too much time making it perfect.

I hope your weekend is filled with things as good as brookies, chicks, flowers and cake.

The Inspiration Board: good friends, good health, good pie

What’s the best reason to celebrate with good friends? Good health. And so, this weekend we gathered at my friend Michella’s house to celebrate her renewed good health. Her chemo is over and her smile is back.

We all enjoyed the hot summer day under a huge shade tree – hugs, happiness, assorted tacos and beverages buried in ice in an old clawfoot tub. Perfect.

The icing on the cake came in the form of a homemade cherry pie that my friend Vicky baked for me. Perfect crust, tart cherries and a sugary crumb topping. Mmmmm.

The “slice of heaven” on the plate was the piece I just had.

I hope your weekend was filled with goodness too.
