Inkling: 2012 owl lover calendar

I’m so happy to be able to share the Owl Lover Calendar with you again this year. Last year, I stumbled upon the site My Owl Barn and shared the link to the free downloadable Owl Calendar.

This year, Shivani of My Owl Barn emailed me to let me know that the 2012 calendar was available for download. Here’s what Shivani said:

Owl Lover 2012 calendar project is the encore of our last year's "Owl Lover" calendar project - a collaborative project between My Owl Barn and 30 international artists. The project was featured on several reputed blogs like decor8, poppytalk, and the calendar was downloaded by almost a hundred thousand owl lovers all over the world. The calendar page received more than 10,000 likes on Facebook.

The best part about this calendar download is that you can choose from 45 owl images created by artists (likes of Suzy Ultman, Jo James, Juliette Crane and Night Owl Paper Goods).

The images in this post are from the Owl Lover calendar that I just created from the Owl Barn site.

Honestly, it was hard to choose from the variety of owl images.

Once I had made my selections, I simply downloaded the PDF and printed out my calendar on heavy water color paper.

Shivani of My Owl Barn is so generous to share this calendar with the world and even invites everyone to use the calendar as a gift for family and friends.

I’m deciding whether to put my calendar pages on my mini memo board or

prop the calendar up on my desk.

I know one thing, I’ll be printing out more calendars and using them as gifts for the holidays.

Thank you so much Shivani {My Owl Barn} for your creating this beautiful calendar and allowing me to share it.

Show and Tell: free owl calendar

If you haven’t purchased or made your 2011 calendar yet, you need to check this out. I’ve seen a lot of free calendar downloads but this one was so unique I had to share it with you.

It’s the “Owl Lover 2011 Calendar”.

What’s unique is that there are 30 illustrations to choose from. Over 30 artists collaborated on this project. Each illustration has a drop down menu where you can choose which month to assign to it. After you finish choosing your 12 illustrations you simply download the calendar and print it out.

Here are the illustrations that I chose:

Inkling: advent calendar book

It’s time!  If you’re counting down the days until Christmas, it’s time to break out the advent calendar.

Back before Thanksgiving, I created an envelope garland and I received many comments suggesting I use the envelopes for an advent calendar. Since I had already made a garland from the envelopes, I decided to do something a little different for an advent calendar.

I made an advent booklet. Each page has an envelope marked with the date. In each envelope is tucked a coupon good for a treat.

Treats can be anything – candy, extra play time or a special outing.

Stay tuned as we count down the days until Christmas. I have a lot of holiday projects to share with you.

Inkling: post it note calendar

I first saw a post it note calendar on Design Mom, and although it looked cool, I didn’t think that system would work for our household.

Lately, as I’ve tried to work in advance and schedule posts for this blog, I realized I needed a quick, easily changeable, visual system to schedule posts. I had an ahhha moment and remembered the post-it calendar.

This system works well if you’re moving things around a lot. I’m thinking this would work well for meal planning too. I’m sticking with our regular calendar for our household and family events but the post it note calendar is working perfectly for scheduling upcoming posts.

And the name is so fitting - post it note calendar for posts. Ahhha!

Upcycling: Back-to-school pencil cans

It’s nearly that time of year again – back-to-school. And that means it’s time to get organized. I threw out all my son’s dried up pens, stubby-broken pencils and bits of who-knows-what.

I found cans in my cupboard of various shapes and sizes. I simply washed them out and covered them in a variety of paper using spray mount. Here’s a trick: to help your decorative paper stick to the cans, wrap the can in another piece of paper with no glue or spray mount, than place a few rubber bands around the can. Once the spray mount is dried, remove the rubber bands and outer paper.

The square-shaped can doubles as a full-year calendar. I included clothes pins for homework reminders and a ruler on the large can. The small can works for paper clips, rubber bands or the inevitable…stubby pencils.

Hopefully, we can stay organized at least through October.
