CELEBRATIONS: Cork & Feather Place Cards

Cork & Feather Place Cards - homework (3)The entertaining season is upon us friends! Time to spruce up the house and get ahead of the curve.

Cork & Feather Place Cards - homework (1)I have a long way to go to get the house guest-ready but I’ll slowly get there. And since I’m avoiding cleaning up the clutter, I made these little place cards.

Cork & Feather Place Cards - homework (2)I’ve been wanting to use these little corks for the longest time. Plus, I’m still loving the feathers that I bought last season. Why not put the two together to create some fall place cards.

Cork & Feather Place Cards - homework (5)I’m going to keep it simple this season. Probably a few natural elements like a simple wheat stalk and a bowl full of apples.

Cork & Feather Place Cards - homework (6)To make these little cork place cards, simple make a little hole in the top of the cork. Use a paperclip or something similar. Poke your feather into the hole. Slice a small part of the cork with a craft knife and insert the name card. I made mine in Word and hand cut them.

Cork & Feather Place Cards - homework (8)Add a little bit of ribbon or twine. I used some strips of gold tulle that I had handy.

Cork & Feather Place Cards - homework (7)That’s it – a simple place setting. Once the holidays roll around, I can swap out the feather for a little bottle brush tree.

Cork & Feather Place Cards - homework (9)One more picture because my son wanted his place card in the post. Good grief!
Thank you so much for stopping by.

CELEBRATIONS: Wedding Birdseed in Eggshells

Wedding Birdseed in Eggshells via homework - carolynshomework (7)

Hello friends! Wedding season is here and I have an easy wedding idea that is budget friendly but on-trend. Wedding Birdseed to toss at the bride and groom. Tossing rice at newlyweds comes from an ancient tradition. It symbolized abundance and fertility. In recent years it was rumored that the rice left on the ground was harmful to birds. I’ve heard that this isn’t true but birdseed has become a popular replacement and I’m sure it’s much better for the birds and critters that clean up our mess.

CELEBRATIONS: Vintage Button Heart

Vintage Button Heart via homework |

I had this idea to use up some of my vintage buttons and create a little heart on an embroidery hoop. I naively thought that I had come up with some sort of original idea to create a little heart. Ha – I checked Pinterest and I discovered there are entire boards dedicated to button hearts on embroidery hoops. There are even hearts using red thread which again I thought would be original. Oh well, I decided to go ahead and create the little project that I had visualized even if it’s been done many, many times.
