CELEBRATIONS: New Year’s Eve Confetti Straws

New Year's Eve Confetti Straws via homework | carolynshomework.comEvery year I try to come up with a new way to package up confetti for New Year’s Eve. That way, everyone just gets a small handful and the confetti and glitter clean up is somewhat manageable. Besides, the package makes it all the more fun.

Inkling: paper mache confetti bowl

Confetti Bowl 7I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s very hard for me to throw away scraps of paper. I wouldn’t exactly classify it as hoarding but it could become a problem if I don’t use up the bits and pieces. This bowl wasn’t made out of paper scraps but paper catalogs. When I attended CHA in January, I came home with a lot of catalogs. The paper catalogs have pages and pages of pictures of pretty paper. How could I throw those away?

Celebrations: new year’s countdown & confetti

Christmas is over and you know what that means... the new year is around the corner. This year has flown by so quickly but I guess I say that every year.

If you’re planning to ring in the new year with friends and family, here’s a fun party accessory that’s easy to make.

Little countdown matchboxes filled with confetti.

I wrapped my matchboxes in different colored foil paper. This paper came in an origami paper set but any festive paper will do.

You can buy confetti or use saved up paper punches from your crafting projects. My micro paper punch has a holder that stores the little punches. Luckily, I’ve been punching a lot of tags and paper lately.

Add some twine or ribbon and the countdown numbers.

Make as many sets of {10-1} that you’ll need so that each guest will have a box of confetti to toss at midnight. The more guests… the more vacuuming you’ll have to do in the morning!

Inkling: black & white new year’s party – confetti

The black and white party ideas continue from yesterday. A New Year’s Eve party wouldn’t be complete without confetti.

At midnight, besides a glass of champagne or sparkling cider, every guest should have a packet of confetti to ring in the new year.

You can buy little glassine bags or make your own. I made these little packets out of wax paper. Just cut a piece of wax or parchment paper and use a glue stick to close up the edges. Fill with confetti and staple closed.

Check back tomorrow for more black and white party ideas as we count down to 2011.
