Etceteras: A Little Eucalyptus

7-7

Every season I change up the décor on my kitchen hutch. I usually introduce a seasonal element or color depending on my mood. Sadly, this summer is getting away from me. Any grand plans for a fresh look with shells, starfish or other summer décor is slowly slipping away.

ETCETERAS: Moss & Fern Spring Decor

Moss and Fern Spring Decor via homework | carolynshomework.comThis project started off innocently enough. I bought this miniature cake stand and thought I’d add a bit of moss and eggs for spring. It doesn’t get any easier than that.

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Cottonelle, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #CottonelleTarget http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO.

Bridal Shower Decor with bathroom tissue flowers via homework | carolynshomework.comBridal season is around the corner but if you’re planning a wedding or planning a bridal shower now is the time to start thinking about the details. Believe me, I’ve done my share of planning and hosting bridal showers. They seem to come in waves and can be expensive to host. Here’s a creative bridal shower décor idea that’s also friendly on the budget.

Celebrations: The Owls Have Landed {Halloween Décor}

Halloween Owl Decor via homework | carolynshomework.comI usually like to wait until October 1st to break out the Halloween décor but since tomorrow is The Inspiration Board creative party, I’m starting a day early. Considering some malls already have holiday décor up, I think it’s okay.

UPCYCLING: Shopping bag to teen decor

Shopping Bag to Teen Sign via homework (9)CMy son has reached the age where he likes to pick out his own clothes. Long gone are the days of cute matching clothes that I would pick out. He typically likes the beachy surf and skate shop type clothing stores that are everywhere here in Southern California.

Be My Guest: town and country living

Friends ~ I’m out of town for a few days and have some great guests lined up to share some wonderful creativity with you. Today, please welcome Jennifer from Town and Country Living.

Hello Everyone! My name is Jennifer and I blog over at Town and Country Living. I'm so thrilled to be guest posting here at Homework! I live in a circa 1875 farmhouse and love the casual approach that farmhouse decorating brings to our busy world. Today, I want to share with you a peek into my home with its simple and easy style.

French VignettePlants play a big role in my home and plant choice is critical to lending the right casual touch. Tropical plants look more exotic while a simple Ivy is better for a cottage look. White bead board makes a great farmhouse backdrop for any vignette!

Etceteras: shells, shells, shells

Are you as excited about summer as I am? And once the summer bug hits, do you break out the shells, coral and starfish? I live near the coast, so I’m not sure if the shell mania is as big a deal in other parts of the world. I do know that there is plenty of beachy, shell inspiration on blogs, Pinterest and online publications. And since I love all things beach and coastal related, I thought I’d do a little shell round up to share.

Etceteras: birch branches and boxwood

The Christmas décor is slowly coming down and getting tucked away until next year. I still want some winter décor around the house and after a season of glitter, I’m craving some natural elements.

Fresh Look: Color+Plus with Lamps Plus

Lamps Collage
I’m thinking about changing the color scheme in my living room. For years, my living room has been beige and white with touches of blue and gold. I need to possibly break out of my neutral phase and get bold.

Etceteras: dreaming of redecorating

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Havertys Furniture for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Havertys 7I would love to redecorate my house. There are some areas that I’m satisfied with but overall there are so many things that need freshening and some areas that need a complete overhaul. If I did redecorate, I would love to go light and bright like this room from Havertys: Discover Something You.

Etcetoras: twiggy tissue box

I’ve been on the hunt for a tissue box cover for a long time. The problem is I like to buy tissues in the large size box and all the covers are usually designed for the small upright box or the smallest flat size.

In the meantime, I’ve been living with the designs that the tissue companies insist will go with my décor. You know, purple flowers, bright geometric patterns, swirly pastels and so on. I’m more of a plain person.

Taking matters into my own hands, I chopped the top off of a tissue box and covered it in a layer of white paper and then a layer of white corrugated paper. I opted to go without the top and the little slit that you pull the tissues from.

And, even though I said I wanted a plain box, I couldn’t resist adding twigs to my box.

A little forest of twigs in all different colors and textures.

Tissue?

Thanks for visiting.

Fresh Look: breakfast room prints

One of my goals for the new year is to freshen up some areas of our home.

There’s a narrow wall on each side of the bay window in our breakfast room and these prints have been hanging there forever. There are two of them – one on each side of the bay window and they fit perfectly. But is was time to freshen up the look.

I painted the frames white and used pressed ferns for an overall cleaner and brighter look.

Instead of cutting a new matte board, I placed the new paper on top of the old matte leaving just the edge of the original border showing. Much easier than cutting new matte board.

Blog Kitchen Prints_collage
The difference is amazing. The new prints brighten up the entire wall. I tried to get a photo of the entire bay window and both prints but there was too much sunlight coming in through the window – which I guess is the point of a pretty bay window.

Now that my first “fresh look” project for 2012 is done, I can’t wait to freshen up more areas.

Thanks for visiting.

Etceteras: easter décor

I’m really enjoying the beginning of spring; outside the weather is warming up, the birds are nesting and the flowers are blooming.

Indoors, we get to enjoy pretty spring and Easter décor. Some of the projects that I’ve made are displayed on my kitchen hutch.

My pink berry wreath hangs from the top of the hutch.

Cherry blossom twigs coordinate with the wreath.

My twine and rag nest holds my cracked shell eggs.

A bird from a previous centerpiece sits by the nest.

Scattered silk flowers and leaves tie into the pink and green color palette.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend. I hope you’re enjoying spring inside and outside wherever you are.

The Inspiration Board: my fall décor

I love decorating for fall. I won’t say it’s my favorite because I would have to amend that statement at the start of every season or holiday. Each change becomes my favorite. I think it’s because it’s so visually refreshing to change out your knick knacks, tableware and centerpieces.

Here are some of my fall decorations. Adding touches here and there doesn’t have to be expensive. A few stalks of wheat tied with string. Fabric scrap pumpkins. Jars filled with whatever you have in your cupboard; beans, popcorn kernels, peppercorns or nuts.

And, of course pumpkins. Here’s a tip. When you’re done with your real pumpkins this year, save the stems to make craft pumpkins next year.

Happy Friday! I hope your house if filled with the feeling of fall.
