Friends, I have a new breakfast obsession! And it’s so fast and easy. I’ve discovered that you can microwave an egg white and it’s perfection. Add in some fresh veggies and you have a healthy breakfast sandwich in 30 seconds.

I’ve been making Sloppy Joes like this since my son was little. I think it happened by accident when I was going to make Sloppy Joes but didn’t have any rolls or hamburger buns – but I did have some hot dog buns. That’s the night the Sloppy Dog was born in my house.

You know those instant ramen noodles – the ones that come in a compact rectangle with a little powdery season pack? Ya, those. I always keep packages of those in my cupboard. If I do make them with the season pack, I only use about 1/3 of the packet. But I rarely use the seasoning that it comes with. Instead, they’re a great base for leftovers. Beef, pork, chicken, shrimp… just about anything goes with those noodles. Here’s an example of what you can make.

Did I mention we’re having an end-of-summer heat wave here in Southern California? We are. The kind of heat where you just don’t want to do anything. Plus, since we live near the coast, we don’t have air conditioning. We rely on an ocean breeze that has been letting us down lately.

I’ve been trying to be healthier and snack on things like veggies, fruit and granola. It irks me every time I buy granola at the market because it’s so darn expensive. And I don’t even get the really good stuff – that’s just too pricey. I finally had some time and made up a batch and it is so good.

Every July 11th or 7/11, the 7-Eleven Convenience Stores give away free Slurpees. Have you ever had a Slurpee? They’re a frozen, icy, sugary beverage that tastes so good on a hot day. I didn’t get my free Slurpee this year which made me sad. So I started thinking about how I could easily make something similar. Have you heard of Granita? It’s a fancy Slurpee! Doesn’t Granita sound better than Slurpee? Actually, a Granita is better than a Slurpee and as I was checking out granita ideas, I realized that you can pretty much make them in a rainbow of colors and flavors.
