Inkling: paper bird centerpiece

It was time to get serious about a spring table centerpiece and after much thought or at least five minutes of thought - I decided I needed some blue birds.

To make these little paper birds, you will need:

Paper to form the bird (I used kraft paper)

Masking tape

Pretty paper to cover the birds (I used blue rice paper)

Glue

Start by forming a shape of a bird with the kraft paper. I stared with the head, formed the body and left the tail fanned out. I used masking tape to keep the shape together and trimmed the tail.

Cut strips of your pretty paper and glue to your bird shape leaving the beak area uncovered. Form a tiny beak out of the kraft paper and glue onto your bird. Let dry thoroughly.

Use your birds to add a touch of spring to your craft projects or home décor.

I have a feeling I’ll be making more of these little birds and adapting them for all of the seasons.

Etceteras: easter bunny wannabee

A fun way to decorate for Easter is to turn your everyday objects into Easter Bunny Wannabees.

This is my duck soup tureen.

This is my Easter Bunny wannabee soup tureen.

To make bunny ears for your objects, simply cut out 2 sets of ears using felt or other heavy fabric. Insert a wire form in between the ears and glue together. Use a piece of ribbon to make a band and tie to your object.

This would be a fun project for kids to change their stuffed animals into Easter bunnies.

 

These are real ducks that landed in my neighbor’s yard recently. They arrived every morning for three days and then left.
 

I’m sure they were worried I was going to make them wear bunny ears and won’t be back.

Inkling: crepe paper flowers

Crepe paper flowers have been on my to-make list for awhile. I originally saw a tutorial on The Bride’s Café and the flowers they made are just beautiful.

The flowers are easy to make because the crepe paper is very forgiving. It scrunches and stretches very easily and can be formed into fairly realistic-looking petals.

I made all yellow flowers and used my crepe paper flowers to decorate a basket for Easter.

The basket is empty – waiting for the Easter Bunny to fill it with goodies.
