Etceteras: twine rope bowl

I saw an amazing sisal bowl over at the blog Centsational Girl. She originally saw a rope bowl at West Elm that they no longer sell so she made her own.

I was immediately inspired. So much so, that I had to make a rope bowl even if I didn’t have any rope. I did have a galvanized bucket / bowl that was just begging to be covered up.

My plan was to use twine since I have tons of it on hand. I wanted handles on my bowl so I braided some of the twine and hot glued it to the sides of the bowl.  The next step would be to start wrapping the twine but I realized that a single strand of twine wouldn’t have the same effect as rope. It would be pretty but it would be a twine wrapped bowl, not a rope bowl.

Not to be deterred, I grabbed 6 balls of twine (yes, I always stock up when I go to the dollar store) and started twisting the twine into rope. Twist and glue, twist and glue and so on.

At this point, I regretted not waiting until I had bought some rope but I was already committed so I kept twisting and gluing.  Almost done and all the bright flowers on the bowl almost covered up.

Mission accomplished. Not quite the same as a cool West Elm bowl or the beautiful knock off that Centsational Girl did, but I’m really pleased and so are my onions.

Thanks for visiting.
I hope to see you tomorrow for The Inspiration Board link party.
