Upcycling: wood tacks

Yard work means more clippings for the recycling bin or for the craft bin.

If you prune your trees or bushes, you can save some of the twigs and branches to use on a variety of crafts.  These smaller branches worked perfectly to make thumb tacks.

After the branches were pruned, I left them outside to dry. Once they were dry, I sawed them into ½ lengths. I used sandpaper to smooth the edges and glued them onto a thumb tack. I used Aleenes’s Original Tacky Glue and let them dry thoroughly before using them.

Wood thumb tacks - a fun and easy project. Yard work – not so fun or easy…

Etceteras: paper flower tacks

I received so many nice comments on the paper flower wreath that I made, that I was inspired to make more paper flowers. I also saw an amazing inspiration board on The Willows and knew exactly how I wanted to use my paper flowers.

Paper flower tacks - so pretty and delicate. All you need to do is make your paper flowers and glue them onto a thumb tack. You can find the paper flower tutorial here.
You have to be a little careful pushing them into your bulletin board because the flower is so delicate.

But like all pretty, delicate flowers, they’re worth it.

Sew and Tell: button thumb tacks

More vintage goodness. These are my cute button thumb tacks that I use on my inspiration board.

They’re so easy to make. Just glue a button onto a plain thumb tack. I have to stop myself from making more and more.

You can change out the look so easily.

I’ve been thinking about redoing my inspiration board and using white fabric with super colorful buttons. Here are the colors I’m thinking about.

Hope your weekend is bright and colorful.
