Sew and Tell: granny square birdhouse

Today I'm sharing this Anthropologie Inspired Crochet Granny Square Birdhouse.

A21185764_095_b
I saw this cute crocheted birdhouse on the Anthropologie site. It’s made from recycled wood and repurposed cloth – very eco-chic.

Since I’m learning to crochet, I thought I’d try to make one of my own.

Mine isn’t eco-chic but it is bright and cheerful. I made 5 granny square (4 sides and a bottom) and stitched them together.

I inserted pieces of cardboard to the inside so the birdhouse would keep it’s shape.

I used a paper plate for the roof, cutting a pie wedge out and taping it into a cone shape. The shingles are made out of burlap and glue gunned into place.

Mine might not be as eco-friendly but it definitely is more budget-friendly.

The Inspiration Board: summer blues and a winner

I haven’t done an inspiration color board in awhile but these cool summer blue pictures caught me eye.

I love ripping out inspirational pictures from magazines.

I mounted these pictures onto worksheet paper. I think the paper is Japanese practice writing paper. The little squares run vertically. In any case, it makes nice graph paper.

Blue tiles and swatches of fabric coordinate with the blue pictures.

A splash of yellow against ocean blues.

Serene blues and greys.

Turquoise beads against a linen picture.

Coordinating fabrics.

My branch spool and blueberries.

Color inspiration: turquoise, pool blue, blueberry, blue/grey, ocean blue – don’t you feel cooler already.

Please enter me to win the canvas art give away. I would use a photo of my daughter Marcella who will be born in September. She is the miracle baby because it took me over 130 days of hospitalization to bring her into the world safely.

Peace,
Cynthia

Good Taste: toffee bar thank you gift

I needed to make a thank you gift for a friend recently. I dug through my recipes and found my recipe for graham cracker toffee bars. You can find the recipe here via The Pioneer Woman’s Tasty Kitchen site.

I don’t make these bars very often. Not that they are difficult to make – in fact, they’re super easy. The reason I don’t make these very often is that they are extremely dangerous. Addicting, 10-step program, can’t stop eating these good.

But since I would be giving away “most” of the bars, I went ahead and made a batch. Here’s proof – the bars getting wrapped up to be given away.

I wrapped the bars in plastic and then covered them in pink tissue paper and added baker’s twine and a pretty card.

I’ll be delivering the goodies tomorrow.

And eating a few leftover bars tonight.

Come back tomorrow for the Inspiration Board link party.
I'd love to see what you've been creating.
