Celebrations: cornhusk & white pumpkins

It’s October! I’m officially bringing out the pumpkins. This year, I wanted to do something different with my pumpkin décor and keep things natural. So where do you start to get that true natural pumpkin look? At the dollar store, of course.




You can find a variety of plastic pumpkins at the dollar store. For this project you just want to use them as a form to make a cornhusk covered pumpkin so it doesn’t matter if they are bright orange.{ Note: the little white mini pumpkins are real. The tall pumpkin is from the dollar store.}



You’ll want to snap off the fake green pumpkin stem and substitute it with a twig or a real pumpkin stem. Tip: Every year save your real pumpkin stems and store them for the next year. They dry nicely and look great on pumpkin crafts.



To make a cornhusk covered pumpkin, you’ll need dried cornhusks. You can find cornhusks in markets that carry ethnic foods or local ethnic markets. Or you can dry your own from fresh corn. If you use the dried cornhusks, they’ll need to be soaked in water to make them workable. I used hot glue to stick strips of the cornhusk to my pumpkin and tied them all tightly at the top. A little bit of moss adds some additional texture and color.

Pumpkin décor wouldn’t be complete without plenty of real mini white pumpkins. 

And pretty fall leaves.
