Celebrations: halloween scary jars

Since I don’t have little kids in the house I can decorate a little bit more ghoulish for Halloween. I’ve seen various spins on pictures in jars and scary altered portraits and I thought I’d combine the two ideas and make some Halloween Scary Jars.

To start with, I needed to find some vintage portraits and the best source for all vintage graphics is The Graphics Fairy. All three pictures I used for this project are from The Graphics Fairy.

Print out the pictures so that they’ll fit in your jars.

To make them extra spooky, paint the eyes with glow-in-the-dark paint. I used glow-in-the-dark Mod Podge. You can use a tiny paint brush or even a toothpick to cover the small area.

Tape your pictures to the inside of the jar and add some spooky cloth available at the dollar store. Add a few dead branches and other details to creep yourself out even more.

My camera and photography skills aren’t good enough to capture a night shot with the eyes glowing but they glow green and trust me – it’s down right spooky. These photos are altered with a photo effect green tint.

My family doesn't like this Halloween décor. They say it’s too creepy.

I love it. They eyes seem to follow you around. Spooktacular!

  1. These jars look great and easy enough to make. They would be perfect decorations for an adult Halloween party. While the jars in and of themselves are spooky the green tint you used makes these look even better. I might have to try these this year...

  4. I love this! I'm thinking that a battery operated tea light flickering inside would look cool too.
Thanks for the idea. I don't have glow paint, but just playing in picmonkey and making the eyes solid white should be sufficiently spooky, I hope!
