Celebrations: spring garden pumpkin

This little pumpkin has it’s seasons mixed up. Pretty paper flowers, twigs, berries and a feathered friend are perched on this pumpkin and will add a little spring color to my fall décor.





This pumpkin started out as an orange plastic dollar store pumpkin. A quick coat of white spray paint was the first step toward giving him a makeover.



I removed the plastic stem that came with the pumpkin and glued on a real pumpkin stem that I had saved from last year. Twigs, moss, berries and rice paper flowers gave this pumpkin a fairy tale look. I couldn’t resist adding the pretty pink bird perched on one of the twigs.



I mentioned in a previous post, that you can save your real pumpkin stems from year-to-year. Real stems look great on fabric pumpkins, paper pumpkins and plastic pumpkins. To save your stem, simply cut around the top of the pumpkin like you would for a jack-o-lantern. Cut away as much of the pumpkin as possible and let dry for several days. Once your stem is completely dry it will be strangely very light weight. The pumpkin part should peel away fairly easily leaving you with just the stem that you can store for the next year.

The rice paper flowers were also saved from a previous project.

Even though this pumpkin is decorated for the wrong season, it makes me happy to see a splash of color on my shelf.
