Start with some old tins that have nice covers. Ironically, I gave these candies to my mom (she loves them) and told her to save me the tins.
- Clean you tins and choose some nice paper to cover the tins with. I happened to have this amazing wood grain paper and even better, it had an adhesive back. You could also use some cool contact paper.
- Cut a strip of paper to cover the outside of the tin. You’ll notice I didn’t cover the tin all the way to the top so that the lid would fit back on.
- Trace around the lid and carefully cut the paper into a circle to fit the top. I cut the circle slightly smaller than the traced circle.
- To add a little accent, use some decorate tape to trim the edge of the lid.
- You can leave the tins like this or add knobs. Knobs add a decorative touch but if you want to stack the tins, leave the knobs off. The knobs I used are actually the little balls that come with ceiling fan chains. I added a little screw to cover the hole. Glue the knobs to the top of the tin using a strong craft glue like E6000.
I sort of want to keep these. I really like how they turned out – but I’m going to give them to my Dad.
Thank you for stopping by.
These are really cute! I bet you could do it with the larger tins that cookies usually go in as well. It would look really nice on a bookshelf. The wood grain paper is a very nice touch.
