Fresh Look: beaded edge frame

It’s easy to give a frame a brand new look with just a few simple supplies. This white frame with a beaded edge had very humble beginnings.

A cheap pink frame and a leftover Christmas bead garland.

Start by gluing your bead garland to the outer edge of your frame. I used a glue gun so that the beads would stick instantly and stay straight. Just be prepared to spend some time picking off all the glue gun threads.



Once you think you’ve removed all the glue gun threads, spray paint your frame in your desired color. Amazingly, glue gun threads kept appearing with every coat of spray paint. I think I finally got them all.



I like how the frame looks in this black and white shot, so I may convert the framed picture to black and white. Yes, that is my son many, many years ago. Time sure flies!

The Inspiration Board: link party spotlight ~48~

Happy Friday everyone. A big thank you to everyone who shared a project on the Inspiration Board this week. I hope you were able to visit some of the links and find some inspiration for creativity. Wishing you all a wonderful spring weekend.

Here are a few projects in the spotlight this week.

I desperately need this in my kitchen. A diy rolling storage solution by Classy Clutter using the small space between the wall and refrigerator. So smart and the chevron back wall is the icing on the cake.



Homeroad shows us her pretty secret garden. The garden is brimming with goodies like crates, tubs, pots and shutters. I love this window greenhouse perfect for the lettuce starting to sprout.





A pretty ornament using a wine cork by Reposhture complete with beaded grapes. A simple and striking craft.



Mmmmm – bruschetta. Joyful Homemaking takes bruschetta to another level with crumbled maple bacon. I could eat the whole plate.


 


Beautiful glass charms by RaeGun Ramblings. The images in the pendants are from favorite book covers and the charms relate to the story. Very unique and a great gift idea for an avid reader.




Delicious looking clay pot chicken by My Turn for Us. I’ve heard that cooking in a clay pot brings out a flavor that you can’t get in a regular pot – I think I saw it on a travel food show. This chicken looks tender and oh so savory!




There’s no shortage of great palette projects lately and this one adds to that list. 2 Crafty 4 My Skirt built this fantastic Mother’s Day Potting Table from old palettes. What a sweet gift and it looks so pretty with the spring flowers.



What a fun party theme. A Bowling Party by Vixen Made for her husband. The theme is carried out throughout all the goodies. White holiday punch, milk bottle bowling pins, cookie bowling balls and more.



Small Garden Love created a fun and green herb garden in honor of Earth Day. Galvanized buckets hang from chains giving the plants plenty of air and sunshine.

 

A wonderful keepsake quilt from The Root Cellar. The squares are made up of a baby’s receiving blankets. From a pile of treasured blankets to one treasured quilt.

Have you heard of Vecco? Vecco is a painting technique for creating rugs and carpets inspired by you. With stencils, colorant sprays and sealants, you make custom designs that'll tie any room together. 

The part I love about Vecco is you get do-overs. Make a mistake? No biggie. Just vacuum up the color and start again before you seal. Nothing’s set in stone until you use the sealant, so you can design as many times as you like until it’s just right!

Check out this layered technique and room inspiration. So pretty! 

Etceteras: faux wood {aka contact paper}

How much fun can a person have with a roll of wood grain contact paper? A lot!

There are so many things you can do with contact paper. Cover books and notebooks – I’m tempted to cover all my cookbooks and add simple labels. They might look nice all lined up on my white shelf or It could be faux wood grain overkill so I’ll have to think about it. 

Cut free form strips and make a votive using an old jar. 

The candle flame looks so pretty peeking through the strips.

Upcycle an old lotion or soap dispenser. 

Contact paper comes in a variety of patterns and colors. I lucked out and found this wood grain pattern at a dollar store and picked up a few rolls. You can use it like vinyl – cut shapes with a craft punch and decorate a wall. Or run a piece through your Cricut machine {there are many tutorials online on how to substitute contact paper for the name brand vinyl}.

I’m going to restrain myself and not cover everything in wood grain contact paper. Perhaps this is a case of less is more.

homework: reading {That Works For Me!}

Several months ago I was notified that two of my projects had been selected for an e-book. I was excited but then I sort of forgot about it. Recently, I was notified that the e-book was done and when I saw it I was super excited. The book is amazing and filled with great tips, tricks, crafts, ideas and more. I’m really honored to have my projects included.
