Etceteras: his and her mugs

We take our coffee very seriously in this household. My husband leaves for work very early in the morning and makes the coffee. When I get up, the coffee is in the pot is waiting for me. It’s a nice routine that I enjoy.

So even though we don’t have our weekday coffee together, we can now have his and her mugs.

To make these mugs, I simply painted the dots and hearts onto the mug using Martha Stewart Multi-Surface Metallic paint. According the instructions, the paint can be used on wood, glass, metal and fabric. The curing time for glass is 21 days.

These mugs would make a nice engagement or wedding gift. Or, make a holiday basket by adding coffee beans and homemade sugar cubes.

In the meantime, I’ll be counting down the days until we can use our new his and her mugs.

Shabby Apple 4

I love the detail on this dress.

Shabby Apple 3
Here’s how Shabby Apple describes the Boogie Woogie dress.

Some things are just better together: peanut butter and chocolate, Ella and Louis, love and dancing.  We decided to pair two things we love—the soft, cotton jersey of our favorite t-shirt, and the gorgeous sateen of our Jazz Age collection—to create the Boogie Woogie, an indispensably comfortable-yet-elegant little black dress.  A luxe jersey cap sleeve top is gathered at the waist with a wide satin sash, and a veritable bouquet of appliquéd, ruched flowers and leaves adorns the full sateen skirt that swirls just below your knee.  A truly inspired combination, the Boogie Woogie has star potential.

    Etceteras: felted planets

Did you ever use this trick to remember the names and order of the planets? My Very Excellent Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas. The first letter of each word stands for a planet: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto. Now that Pluto has been reclassified as a dwarf planet, some are using the new phrase My Very Excellent Mother Just Served Us Noodles.

I kept thinking about that phrase when I reviewed the book Microcrafts last week and highlighted their felted fluffy solar system.

Here’s the project as seen in the book Microcrafts {above}.

I followed the step by step instructions and created nine (I wanted to include Pluto) fluffy felted balls. To make these felted balls, use a clump of wool yarn, run it under hot sudsy water and form a ball.

Once the planets were dry, I used thread to hang them from an embroidery hoop.

I know my planets aren’t accurately represented as a model solar system but it was still fun to make these little cosmic balls and try to remember the names of all the planets.

    Etceteras: white on white inspiration

I created this white on white inspiration sign recently. I’m going to hang it over my bulletin board where I hang inspiring photos and project ideas.

    painted-label-treat-jars-1_thumb
These cute treat jars were the original inspiration for the project. I came across these on Addicted to Decorating and was so intrigued by the raised lettering. The post reveals that the letters are chipboard scrap booking letters spray painted white.

    White Collage
I loved the white on white effect and headed to Pinterest to check out some other ideas. Here are a few that I found.

    1. Beach – Nautical Cottage
    2. If I could choose – The Adventures of Mrs. Reagan
    3. And they lived happily ever after – Not on the High Street
    4. Mixed typeface – HGTV Urban Oasis
    5. P.S. I love you – Keep Home Simple

I was ready to get started on my white on white sign. I had all the supplies on hand; chipboard letters, a piece of wood and white spray paint. Here’s what the letters looked like before I painted them.

And here’s the finished sign. I still need to add a picture hanger to the back and hang it over my board but even propped up on a shelf I feel inspired.

The Inspiration Board: link party 23

Welcome to The Inspiration Board link party. Is everyone in full autumn and holiday mode? No matter how prepared I am, I always feel a little panicky around this time. For now, I’ll sit back and enjoy your projects.

If you’re new to the party – thank you for joining in the fun. I’ll be going through the projects and featuring some in the spotlight on Friday. If you’ve linked up projects in the past – thank you so much for coming back each week.

    A few rules:
    • Link up your own projects – something you created.
    • Link to a specific post, not your blog home page (No Etsy shops or giveaways).
    • Grab a “homework” button and include it somewhere on the post you’re linking, on your home page or a page of link parties. Or, if you prefer, add a text link.
    • Follow homework. You’ll find the “Follow via Google Friend Connect” gadget on the right sidebar.
    • Please visit the other links that intrigue you and make someone smile with a comment or two.

I’m ready to be inspired and can’t wait to see what you’ve been making.
