The Inspiration Board: link party spotlight ~20~

Another amazing week on the Inspiration Board. The variety of projects amazes me. Delicious treats, fall and Halloween décor, sewing and needlework and more.

Here are a few in the spotlight this week.

Sugar Swings made these pretty candy corn striped madeleines. Candy Corn isn’t my first choice for candy but I could eat the whole plate of the madeleines.

 

 

I love seeing new things and this locker hooking rug by Totally Lauren Amber is so pretty. A great way to use up scrap fabric and learn something new. 

 

Incredibly unique candles by ArtDrops. Real snail shells turned into these sterling beauties. Wouldn’t a bowl of silver snails with scented wax be fantastic in a powder room?

  

Little embroidery hoop fabric baskets to organize crafting supplies by Always a Project. The fabric choice, the zig zag edge and lining really kick these up a notch.

 

 

{left} Pretty fabric pumpkins by Polka Dot Bungalow. The grapevine wire and neutral colors work so well together.

{right} I love the simplicity of these wire pumpkins by Melanie’s Crafts. This idea can be adapted for so many other seasons.

 

 

Gorgeous pumpkin pie by Ode to Inspiration. I commented on her post that it was “almost” too pretty to eat. I think we both laughed about that because as we all know - pie is meant to be eaten. Yum! 

 

Abundant felt loop wreath by Blissful Meandering. The gray and yellow are so pretty and I can’t get over the amount of felt loops. Definitely a labor of love – that I love. 

 

Beautiful jewelry box by Dazed and then Some. This project wasn’t a restored thrift store find. This was a new raw wood box that was painted and distressed. The peacock blue chippy paint gives the box such a rich feel. 

 

All I can say is Wow! A yardstick buffet by Corner House. Such a great idea and so beautifully crafted. Head over to Corner House for the “how to”… {fyi - you need a lot of yardsticks}.

Sew and Tell: fabric covered vase

This is a quick and easy way to change the look of your décor to match the seasons.

Simply wrap a vase you have on hand with fabric and embellish with seasonal accents. The vase I used is cobalt blue but the size and shape were perfect to hold my fall foliage.

I wrapped the vase in a circular piece of fabric and tied it tightly with string.

 

I used pretty trim to wrap around some eucalyptus pods and hot glued them to the fabric. I thought they looked like little flowers and loved the burst of color.

When I’m done with this look, I’ll simply remove the pods and fabric and reuse the vase. You can use any type of container to achieve this look – just dig through your recycling bin for water bottles, cans and jars.

Celebrations: gold pumpkins

I had several names in mind for this post; “accidental gold pumpkins”, “craft fail gold pumpkins”, “jumping on the painted pumpkin band wagon” and more. I decided to keep it simple and go with Gold Pumpkins.

Originally, these pumpkins were going to be blue with gold stencil. I think I’ve mentioned that I’m “stencil challenged” and I wanted to stencil with gold paint using a doily onto the blue pumpkins.

I stenciled away but the result was blah. The gold didn’t stand out enough and it was all smudgey. I stared at them for awhile and went with Plan B. For awhile I’ve been toying with the idea of using spices to add color to a project. 

I grabbed a bottle of cinnamon, paprika and turmeric. Perfect fall colors. I covered the pumpkin in Mod Podge and started sprinkling cinnamon. I had imagined a perfectly flocked pumpkin coated in cinnamon. Instead I had a big mess. 

Plan C – wash off the Mod Podge and cinnamon and salvage my dollar store pumpkins. As I washed the pumpkins, they started getting mottled so I stopped washing, stood back and thought, I could live with this pumpkin. You can still see the texture of the spice in the above photo.

I painted a few dollar store gourds and nuts in metallic paint to coordinate with the pumpkins.

I pulled out my skeleton gilded leaves that I made a while back to really gild the lily.

Phew – I’m so glad I saved my dollar store pumpkins.

What a wonderful week on the Inspiration Board. Beautiful seasonal and year-round projects, food, décor and more. Is anyone else stunned that October is halfway over and we’re heading into the holiday season.

Thank you to everyone who linked up and to everyone who came by to visit. All the projects linked up were amazing - here are a few that I’m spotlighting this week.

 

   

A coiled magazine page bowl by Saved by LoveCreations. Recycled magazines turned into a work of art. Beautiful! 

 

Felting has been on my list of projects to learn and these Billy Buttons by Max and Me are just so bright and cheery. 

A painted leaf and acorn wreath by Lady with the Red Rocker. I love the contrast of the green and metallic gold against the black door. The best tip is what she used as a wreath base – great cost saving idea! 

 

Beautiful fall pumpkin mobile by The Rooster and the Hen.  An original way to display pumpkins and a great idea if you are out of shelf or mantle space. 

 

Fun and whimsical cake topper by Zween. The coiled wire is the perfect setting for this little birthday bird.

  

Pretty glitter tea lights by Frugalicious Me. These would make wonderful favors for a variety of parties; showers, weddings or the holidays. 

This gluten free pumpkin bread {disguised as a cake or is it vice versa) looks delicious. I know there’s a lot of interest for gluten free recipes so head over to Design, Dining and Diapers to learn how to make this.

 

 

I’m amazed at this yarn ball light by The Crafty Scientist. I’ve used this same technique to make bowls but the perfectly round orb with the light shining through is fantastic. 

 

I couldn’t decide which photo to use of the Miss Kopy Kat “fall-i'-fying” post. Beautiful fall décor inside and outside. Head over to see all the inspiration. 

 

This vignette is so pretty. Villa Barnes made the candle holders out of lamp parts, paint and prisms. The clock face and white pumpkin add the finishing touches. Lovely!
