It’s officially summer and here in Southern California that means shorts and flip flops. Okay, we wear shorts and flip flops nearly year round but at a certain age, the shorts season starts getting shorter. Maybe as we age we get a little more cold blooded but I find myself only wearing shorts when it’s super hot. 
Finding a cute pair of shorts for a more mature fashion isn’t easy. One doesn’t want to look matronly or like a teenager. You have to find what you’re comfortable in. Whether you like Bermuda shorts, capris, or shorter shorts – be comfortable and confident. I tend to like shorter shorts. Not teeny tiny short shorts but just the shorter length since I’m not tall. I found these perfect shorts recently at TJ Maxx. They’re cut fuller and have an elastic waist plus a drawstring – score!. I don’t have abs of steel so the elastic waist is comfortable for me.
Here’s an impromptu selfie that I took early one morning – luckily the bed was made. It was a super hot day so I just threw my hair into a mom bun and honestly, I hadn’t even finished my makeup. The shorts and loose sleeveless tee are perfect for a hot summer day. 
These are the types of sleeveless tops and tanks that are my uniform. I like a longer length to hide the muffin top. Find what’s flattering on you and stick with it. I have a drawer full of sleeveless tops like this and wear them all summer. This one is from H&M.
If you want to dress up your shorts wear a cute top like this one. These types of tops work for me with the flowing fabric. This one is also from H&M. H&M is a great source for very low cost clothes but I’ve found there clothes run really small. I usually wear a Small and order a Medium or one size up in the number sizes.
Summer clothes mean fun summer accessories and I just got this new cuff bracelet also from H&M. And no, I’m not an affiliate of H&M, I just love the bargains that they have. 
These are my new favorite wedge sandals. I picked them up at TJ Maxx so they would be nearly impossible to find but there are tons of cute summer sandals that are similar.

Fashion over 50 doesn’t have to be frumpy. No matter what you wear, be comfortable - we’ve definitely earned it.
