Etceteras: orange and white rose potpourri

Putting out a bowl of potpourri is an instant pick-me-up. It’s pretty and it’s a natural air freshener.
Making your own potpourri is easy and eco-chic.  I made my potpourri out of oranges that were going to be thrown away and white rose petals that had dropped to the ground.

To make this potpourri you first need to dry the oranges. Slice the oranges into thin ¼” slices. Try to blot the juice with paper towels to speed up the drying time. Chop up a few of the slices into small pieces so that you end up with some slices and some small bits. Bake them in the oven at 150 degrees for about 6 hours. Turn them every now and then to make sure both sides are drying out.
Air dry the petals on a tray. Once dried, mix the petals with the small orange bits and orange slices in a pretty bowl. You can make potpourri out of a variety of dried fruit, cinnamon, flowers or other greenery.

And if you really want to be green, once you’re done with the potpourri, you can compost it.

  1. I can almost SMELL that, Carolyn! And I'm SERIOUSLY going to make some! You'd be surprised to know that I have a little bitty notebook in which I keep the most special ideas from bloggers alongside a teeny picture of the project. I have more of YOURS than of anyone's! They are easy, lovely, and VERY special! THANK YOU for being a true inspiration.
