Sew and Tell: button thumb tacks

More vintage goodness. These are my cute button thumb tacks that I use on my inspiration board.

They’re so easy to make. Just glue a button onto a plain thumb tack. I have to stop myself from making more and more.

You can change out the look so easily.

I’ve been thinking about redoing my inspiration board and using white fabric with super colorful buttons. Here are the colors I’m thinking about.

Hope your weekend is bright and colorful.

  2. This might be a silly question, but what type of glue do you use? Superglue or a glue-gun or another type? Do you use the common tacks that have slightly curved backs, so you use enough glue to glob over the curvature?

How would you recommend I get an assortment of interesting buttons -- do you handpick yours new at a sewing store or do you know of web resources where you can purchase an assortment of older buttons?

    Thank you.

    1. Hi Alice,
I used regular Alene's Tacky Glue for this project. But for an even better hold you can use E6000. The tacks I used were slightly curved but the glob of glue stuck to the button.

The buttons I used are all vintage buttons. I bought a bag of them on Ebay years ago. I haven't shopped on Ebay in quite awhile. You could also try Etsy since they now sell vintage items. Thanks so much for your questions. Have fun!
