HOMEROOM: Master Bedroom Makeover (Part 1 Dresser)

Dresser Makeover 7I am finally going to makeover our master bedroom. This is the saddest room in the house. Original inexpensive furniture from when we first got married, mismatched décor, old blinds and curtains and the list goes on and on. It’s going to be a slow process since I only have weekends to work on the projects. This will be the first of several posts and I’m starting with one of the dressers.

Dresser Makeover 9These old Ikea dressers need to go but new pretty dressers aren’t in the budget right now. I have three of these dressers. Two 3-drawer and a taller 5-drawer dresser. The 3-drawer dressers serve as night tables and my plan is to create a white and beige semi-coastal room. The first step was to paint the dressers and I managed to get one done. I started by lightly sanding the veneer.

Dresser Makeover PrimterOnce the sanding was done and I had wiped down the dressers, I used two coats of Kilz Stain Blocker Primer. While the paint was drying I got busy on the drawers.

Dresser Makeover 10I wanted to add some texture and interest to the dressers so they wouldn’t just look like white Ikea dressers. I chose paintable paper in a wood texture. You simply cut your piece to fit the front of the drawer, wet the paper and adhere. Let the paper dry completely. Once everything was dry, I finished the dresser with two coats of a semi-gloss white paint.

Dresser Makeover 3I chose some gorgeous knobs from D. Lawless Hardware. These are the Antique English Knobs with a Ribbed Finish. They are super heavy and give the dresser a more expensive look. I just love them. Seriously, hardware makes such a difference on  cupboard or piece of furniture. If you are shopping for any type of cabinet or furniture hardware, I highly recommend D.Lawless Hardware. An amazing selection, great prices and exceptional customer service.

Dresser Makeover 5In this photo you can see the edge of the matching headboard on the left. I plan to cover the headboard in a beige fabric. I can’t wait to get to that project.

Dresser Makeover Before and AfterNext up, I’ll finish the other two dressers, cover the headboard and then add new window treatments. I’ll most likely go with bamboo shades. But that’s not all – the other side of the room is a mish mash of miscellaneous pieces of furniture and my husband’s chair that holds a pile of his clothes. Seriously, how and why did I let it get this bad.

Dresser Makeover 6Stay tuned for many more posts about our master bedroom makeover. I have a long way to go and small budget.

I received product from from D. Lawless Hardware for this project. No other compensation was received and all opinions are mine. Really!

Thanks so much for stopping by.
