She’s my faithful pal. My four-legged bestie and by my side every day while I work from my home office. Even if you don’t have a dog, these dog biscuits would make a nice gift for a dog loving friend.
It’s just like making cookies. I found the recipe in a freebie real estate magazine I received in the mail. But I located the source and wanted to give credit to 17 Apart.
Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 1 bunch fresh carrots, finely chopped or grated
- 2-3 fresh bananas, peeled and mashed
- 1 beaten egg
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar – optional
- 1/2 cup cold water
Preheat your oven to 350o and grease cookie sheets. Combine ingredients and mix to a dough. My dough was way too moist and I added more flour and corn meal. I think my bananas might have been too ripe or something. You want your dough to be stiff like gingerbread. Roll out the dough on a well floured surface and use cookie cutters to make your biscuits. Place on the cookie sheets and bake for 35 minutes. Once the biscuits are done turn off the oven and leave them in for another 30 minutes or longer to make sure they are crisp and they harden.
I would recommend chopping the carrots or grating them a little finer than I did. I used the coarsest grater and my shreds were too long and sticking out of the biscuits on the edges when I cut the dough with the cookie cutter.
I also had visions of my biscuits looking a little more perfect but, oh well, they’re natural and homemade and my Sammy loves them!
You can make a big batch and freeze them for future use or gift giving! These would be so cute in a little take out container or large mason jar with a fun tag.
Thanks for visiting my little corner of the creative world.
I just pinned this and I bet my Sorcha would love these. Thank you for sharing. When you say one bunch of carrots, do you mean like one pound or?
ReplyDeleteHi Shannon, thanks so much. I used about 3-4 carrots but usually a bunch (the amount sold bunched together in the market) has maybe 6-7. I guess it depends how big the carrots are. Next time, I'll use about 5 carrots.
