The Dirt: Oz the Great and Powerful Fairy Garden

Oz the Great and Powerful China Town Garden via homework (1)-001

Have you seen Oz the Great and Powerful? Oh my goodness – the movie is amazing and the visuals are breathtaking. I won’t go into the whole movie since you may not have seen it and the DVD is just coming out but I was inspired to create this pretty little garden inspired by China Town, home to China Girl, a character in the movie.

Oz the Great and Powerful China Town Garden via homework (10)To make your own China Town Fairy Garden you'll need:
  • Tea Pots
  • Tea Cups
  • Miscellaneous china pieces
  • Serving Dish
  • Potting Soil
  • Plants
  • Marbles or Beach Glass
  • Moss
  • Museum Putty
  • Craft or Popsicle Sticks
  • Craft Glue
Gather your china dishes and arrange them in your serving dish. My dish had sides so I could nestle them without them falling out. Once you're pleased with your arrangement, one by one take out a piece and and put a plant in it. If any of the dishes feel wobbly, add a bit of museum putty to the under side so it will stay in place. Add moss to hide the bare areas.

To make the garden gate, cut craft sticks to a desired height and glue a cut craft stick on the back to hold them in place. Add an embellishment for the gate knob.

This would be a fun project to do with kids after you see the movie. Look for thrift store teapots and dishes to create your own China Town inspired garden.

  6. I just visited a really great DIY terrarium store in Portland last weekend where we made terrariums right there in the store with everything we could possibly need. It was so much fun! Your themed terrarium is AMAZING! I haven't seen the OZ movie just yet but I'm sure I will if it's coming out on video soon.
