ETCETERAS: Ribbon Memo Board {oh boy}

Ribbon TitleI recently guest posted over at The Ribbon Retreat and shared this fun Teen Boy Memo Board for their Oh Boy series. Since you usually don’t associate ribbon with teen boys it was a fun and challenging project to create.

Ribbon 11Teens accumulate a lot of “stuff”. My son saves pretty much everything – ticket stubs, notes, souvenirs from fun events and more. Since these things are important to him, I wanted to make a fun and decorative board so he could save and display some of his mementos.
  Blog Ribbon Retreat CollageTo make a ribbon memo board, you need to start with a piece of wood or sturdy board. I used a frame I had on hand that had a nice canvas mat board already in place. I popped out the mat board and got to work on my memo board.
  1. Start by cutting your ribbon (Ribbon A) the width of the board plus enough to wrap under the board and staple. Cut the coordinating ribbon (Ribbon B) the height of the board again leaving enough to staple.
  2. Line up Ribbon A and staple one side of the ribbon to the back of the board.
  3. You’ll want to leave the other side unstapled so that it’s easier to weave in your coordinating ribbon.
  4. Weave in Ribbon B stapling both sides to the back of the board as you finish each piece. Once you have finished weaving in Ribbon B, staple the final side of Ribbon A to the back of the board.

Ribbon 5You don’t have to use a frame but I had this one and it gives the memo board a nice finished look.

Ribbon 8Add your bits and pieces to the memo board tucking things here and there. You can also use pin or clips to stick things to the board.

Ribbon 9Sunglasses hang easily in the open weave.

Ribbon 12This teen memo board passed inspection and my son loves it. I’m sure my son will be adding more and more things to his new memo board.

Ribbon 6To make this teen memo board I used Preppy Stripes Ribbon in Sand N Sea and Solid Grosgrain Ribbon in Oatmeal from The Ribbon Retreat. For more crafty boy ideas, check out the Oh Boy Series on the The Ribbon Retreat.

Thanks for visiting.

  1. I love this. I was trying to think of a way to hang my daughters sun glasses in her bedroom so that her baby brother doesn't get them. Thanks for the idea I'm pinning this so that I can use it in my kids rooms.
