A few years ago I created some pressed fern art for my dining room. The ferns were a vibrant spring green and looked so fresh and clean.
Here they are – you can see how I pressed them and framed them
here.
Over the past few years, the fresh green color slowly faded into a sad brown. It was definitely time to freshen them again. Gold accents are really in style right now so I thought I’d try to salvage my pressed ferns by painting them gold.
A tiny paint brush, gold craft paint and a steady hand are all you need to give dead pressed leaves a new lease on life.
Once the paint was dry, I put them back in the frame and rehung them.
The frames fit perfectly on the narrow wall space surrounding the bay window. This was a quick and easy update to freshen up the unsightly prints. When spring rolls around, I may want to press some new ferns and go back to the spring green color but for now, I love the gold look.
Thanks for visiting.

Oh my gosh, you definitely have a steady hand! The ferns look beautiful in both green and gold, but what I love the most is the way you framed 3 within 1 frame.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn, the fern leaves look great in gold. Now that is really taking recycling to a new level!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful, Carolyn! Gold makes everything better, in my opinion ;).
