Celebrations: glowing eyes treat bag

I had so much fun making my Halloween Spooky Jars that I wanted to make another glow-in-the-dark project. This one is a little more kid friendly and not as scary as those darn spooky jars that keep watching me all day.

Treat Bag Collage
These treat bags are super simple to make. I made little bags out of parchment paper but I would recommend purchasing glassine bags or making bags out of another type of paper. The parchment paper is designed as a non-stick baking surface so a lot of adhesives don’t want to stick to it either.

I cut out a branch from black cardstock and glued it to the bag with a small amount of white glue. The eyes are made from paper punches with glow-in-the-dark Mod Podge layered on each eyeball. Once the eyes were dry, I covered the bag in Creepy Cloth that you can find at the dollar store.

The bag looks great at night with the eyes glowing. As I mentioned in my previous glow-in-the-dark post, I was unable to capture the night time glow with my camera.

The top of the bag is trimmed with a scalloped edge scissors and I used a mini clothes pin blackened with a Sharpie pen to close it all up.

Are they owls? Are they ghosts? That’s the spooky fun of it. If you have little crafters that want to help, you can substitute purchased googly eyes to make crafting these bags even easier.

Off to get glassine bags to finish the rest of these treat bags. The parchment paper looks great but I need to make a lot of these for all the trick or treaters.

Have a spooktacular day!

  1. I love this, Carolyn ~ totally adorable!

p.s. If you would like any tips for photographing them glowing, just shoot me an email. It took me awhile to figure it out for my glow-in-the-dark shirt post but after playing around with my settings I was able to do it (not an expert at all...but learned a few tricks!)

  11. Carolyn, there's an elegance to your work, even when the subject is the macabre. Love it!
