Have you ever noticed play sand for sale at the garden center? When you do...be sure to buy a bag. Yes...it may be more than you need, but I'm pretty certain that once you have your bag of sand, you'll be glad you bought it (and it certainly won't break the bank). Plus, you'll find lots of ways to use that sand.
One of my favorite ivory pottery trays was commissioned to hold my "beach." I added a vintage raised dot bowl that reminds me of water and a few shells to the tray. That's it! You can't beat the simplicity! Whenever I look at it...I am immediately transported to my favorite beach. Ahhhhh.... [sigh]
"At the beach, life is different. Time doesn't move hour to hour but mood to moment. We live by the currents, plan by the tides, and follow the sun." Anonymous
Carolyn, I'm honored to be here at Homework, an extraordinary spot for inspiration. Always!! Everything you do and share here is done with such class. Best wishes for a memory-making trip with your son.
Blessings! Diane
I think Diane’s idea for a day at the beach is an extraordinary idea. I love decorating with shells and the addition of some sand makes you just pause, feel calm and listen for the ocean waves. For more inspiration, please visit An Extraordinary Day.
Thank you so much Diane for sharing here on homework.
I'm especially drawn to the glass ball! We stopped at a glass lowers and was fascinated by their technique in making balls to fancy chandeliers! I too have a beach-scape in my bathroom and on the coffee table. Sand? Courtesy of the Pacific Ocean!! I've added driftwood I find too.
ReplyDeleteThat blue bowl really does remind me of the beach! What a great idea, since few of us get to actually go to the beach. :-) Its a beautiful beach, too.
ReplyDeleteI just linked up to Lavender Garden Cottage and I smiled when I saw you beach vignette. I just finished redoing our mantel with shells. And, I created a beach on a shell platter. I was washing a glass bowl full of sand and shells so I poured everything onto newspaper while I washed the bowl. It all looked so pretty when it was spread out that I couldn't bear to just put it in the bowl.
ReplyDeleteAll of that sand and the shells are quite special. The entire lot - sand and all - was brought back from the Maldives in 2001 when my husband was on a surf trip. When he and his buds planned the trip, we didn't make the connection that our 30th wedding anniversary would fall in the 3 week window of the boat trip. So, those shells and the sand were my anniversary present since there was nowhere for him to buy any presents.
Happy Summer and enjoy your beach!
