HOMEWORK {Reading}: Holiday Issue Martha Stewart Living & a Giveaway
There’s still time to create handmade or homemade holiday gifts and these ideas from the pages of the holiday issue of Martha Stewart Living are amazing. This story is titled Partners in Craft. I love that title because I love to share ideas and feel like the creative community is all about partnering. The projects featured in the story and in this post were created by members of the Martha Stewart extended family – colleagues, friends, current and past contributors to the magazine.

These cookie snow globes are darling. We’ve all seen hundreds of variations of the mason jar snow globe but these take things to a new level. Everything in the jar is edible. Homemade gingerbread cookies, royal icing and little trees made out of hard candy are nestled in a snowy field of icing.

ETCETERAS: SPORTS GIFT BAG
This post is sponsored by Shutterfly in conjunction with Looksi Square. I received product compensation, but all opinions are my own.
My son has played sports his entire life. When he was younger he played football, basketball, volleyball and baseball. It was a never ending cycle of sporting events. I lost count of how many times I was the team mom.

The Dirt: dollar store steamer to flower basket
Here’s a fun and budget friendly idea for a Mother’s Day gift {or any occasion gift}.

I found this wire steamer basket at the dollar store. You could do so many things with this basket. Hang several for kitchen storage, use them for ribbons or scraps of fabric, or actually use it to steam vegetables.
I decided to use mine as a planter for a Mother’s Day gift.
I lined the basket with moss and gave it a good soaking.
The steamer basket handles double as legs. Or, you could hang the basket using the handles.
Once filled with potting soil, I planted Forget Me Not seeds.
Forget Me Not flowers are so pretty and delicate. I love the gorgeous blue color and the cheery yellow center. Here’s how legend says the flower got it’s name.

I can’t wait for my basket to start growing and I’m envisioning an abundance of pretty blue flowers like the ones above. Fingers crossed!

In the meantime, this dragonfly plant stick will stand guard over my seeds.
Thanks for visiting.

Celebrations: father’s day fire starter kit
Now that we’ve gone from indoor fireplace to outdoor fire pit weather, what better gift for dad than a mini fire starter kit.
Sure those long butane lighters are handy but there’s something about starting a fire the old fashioned way with newspaper, twigs and matches that makes you feel all rustic.
Father’s Day is coming up and this fire starter kit is easy to make and very easy on the wallet. Gather a few twigs and shredded newspaper and bundle them with some twine.
Add a few match boxes - I covered mine with picnic patterned paper. Place your items in a box nestled in dried moss. You can include more items like, grilling spices and ingredients for s’mores.
Dad will have all the items handy to start the next fire pit, barbeque or camp fire.
