Sew and Tell: bleach pen pillow

I’ve seen the bleach pen technique done before but when I happened upon a cute t-shirt over at KraftyKat, I was inspired to give it a try.

The technique uses a bleach pen on fabric to create a batik type design. I wanted to practice on scrap fabric first and liked how this green fabric took the bleach.

Bleach on the fabric

To make a bleach pen project, you simply draw your design on the fabric and let it sit. The longer you wait - the lighter the area will be. Then rinse under cold water.
Crafty Tip: Wear old clothes and cover your work area or work at your kitchen counter.

I made a pillow out my bleach pen design. I felt it was a little plain and couldn’t resist adding a piece of torn fabric and tying a bow.

I still have plenty of bleach in my pen so I’ll either be making more bleach pen projects…or cleaning the tile grout.
