It’s a wrap: Fabric & Garlands

Recycle Gift Wrap via homework (2)I love pretty packages but I have to confess, I do use and reuse gift bags now and then. But when I have time, I like to make gifts extra special. Wrapping paper can be expensive. I don’t like expensive – especially when it’s something that’s going to be ripped open and thrown away. One of my favorite ways to wrap gifts is with things that I have around the house. Leftover fabric, paper, recycled materials… it can all be used to make a package pretty.

Recycle Gift Wrap via homework (1)This package is wrapped in copier paper and the garland is made out of security envelopes.

Recycle Gift Wrap via homework (3)Use a circle punch to punch several circle out of scraps of craft paper.

Recycle Gift Wrap via homework (4)Use a glue stick to adhere two circles to your twine or string. This way, each circle has a front and back. Keep gluing until you have a long length of garland.

Recycle Gift Wrap via homework (6)Wrap your package in fabric as you would using wrapping paper. I used glue dots to secure the ends.

Recycle Gift Wrap via homework (2)Wrap your garland around your package and you’re all done.

Recycle Gift Wrap via homework (8)For a smaller package, use a sheet of copy or printer paper for a clean white palette.

Recycle Gift Wrap via homework (11)Make a garland using your circle punch and security envelopes. Glue stick the inside of each circle and fold the circle around the string.

Recycle Gift Wrap via homework (12)Wrap your garland around the box folding the circles around the sides.

  1. I'm loving your ideas! I have a circle cutter - so it's a little more work, but I definitely have to try this! Thank you.

  3. This is really fabulous. It looks great! Also Paper Source is my favorite place in the world, and, although I'm not crafty, I like crafty things like circle punches and craft paper and glue dots.
