Little Craft: fuzzy animals

Fuzzy Animals 2I love picking up those bags of plastic animals at the dollar store. I’ve painted some and even glitterized some. And at a dollar for a bag of animals, these make great kid crafts.

Here’s another fun thing to do with those little plastic guys – cover them with yarn.Fuzzy Animals 3Wrapping these animals in yarn would be challenging and you would have to be very precise and neat. An easier way to give them a fuzzy coat of fur is to use little pieces of yarn.

Blog Fuzzy AnimalsChoose your animals and your yarn. Nubby yarn works best because it’s easy to apply and very forgiving. Cut tiny pieces of yarn approximately 1/4 inch long. Cover your animal in craft glue and apply the yarn bits. Use a toothpick to move the yarn and cover bare spots.

Fuzzy Animals 4Once the glue is dry, you can trim the fuzz to neaten it up.
Fuzzy Animals 8The shape of the animal changes with the coat of fur. This plastic animal was a sleek Doberman type dog but now he’s looks more like a Terrier – even if he is pink and beige.
Fuzzy Animals 5And look, he’s won Best of Show!

  2. This is adorable! Love this idea. Thinking of gathering bits of yarn and letting the kids cover their animals in glue and roll them. Might not be perfect but boy oh boy would they love that!! Thanks!
