HOME ROOM: Freshening the Living Room

I have a bad case of the organizing and freshening bug. I’ve been moving things around, decluttering and I’m eager to start on some home décor projects. I have loads of ideas but first on my list was our living room. I was lucky enough to receive a new SmartStrand Forever Clean bound carpet from Mohawk and it was just the inspiration I needed to do some additional freshening to the room.




I love the new carpet. We have existing beige carpet throughout the house and plan to install hardwood flooring one day. Right now, it’s not in the budget so this new Mohawk carpet is the perfect way to lighten and brighten the room. I chose the pattern Willow Spirit and the color is Birch Bark.


It’s plush and soft and best of all it’s the easiest to clean carpet ever. Even though I call this room our living room, it doubles as our family room so this room takes a beating (you know, messy husband, teenage son and all his friends and of course, the spoiled dog.) The SmartStrand Forever Clean carpet features Nanoloc spill-protection technology for quick and easy spill cleanup. Spills and stains clean up with water or mild detergent.Hooray! 


Speaking of the spoiled dog, she photo bombed several of the photos I was taking. No amount of begging, pleading or commanding would make her budge off the new carpet. So my new carpet is “Sammy” approved.


I’d love to get a new sofa and loveseat in a lighter color {dreaming of white} but it’s not practical right now. The moss sofa set has served us well and is very forgiving. So, in addition to the new carpet, I added some new pillows sticking with the light blue accent color. The pillow on the left is a plain white pillow covered in an infinity gauze scarf. This is a quick and inexpensive way to add accent color to your room.


Since it’s winter, I have several throws all over the room to keep things cozy. I originally painted the basket on the floor for the bathroom but it’s the prefect size to hold my beloved branches from my dearly departed white birch tree.

This giant oversized blue china bowl is another favorite piece that I move around depending on my mood.

It’s amazing what a new carpet and a few accessories can do for a room. The entire room seems larger, lighter and brighter. And, I love that it’s environmentally friendly made from renewable resources.
