CELEBRATIONS: Vintage Button Heart

Vintage Button Heart via homework | carolynshomework.com

I had this idea to use up some of my vintage buttons and create a little heart on an embroidery hoop. I naively thought that I had come up with some sort of original idea to create a little heart. Ha – I checked Pinterest and I discovered there are entire boards dedicated to button hearts on embroidery hoops. There are even hearts using red thread which again I thought would be original. Oh well, I decided to go ahead and create the little project that I had visualized even if it’s been done many, many times.

FRESH LOOK: Winter Whites

Winter Whites via homework | carolynshomework.com

Even though the weather has been unseasonably warm here in Southern California, it’s still winter to us. I know – if you have snow outside your window you’re probably laughing at me right now. But I want you to know that it’s chilly here in the early morning and in the evenings.

Cookie Tin 8[10]From my archives | COOKIE TIN TO COFFEE BIN

Welcome to the Inspiration Board creative party! I’m so happy you’re here on my favorite day of the week. We’re still enjoying beautiful weather here in Southern California and I know a lot of creative and crafty bloggers were here for the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) show this past weekend. I didn’t go this year but I’ll be scouting around to see what was showcased at the event and what new products and trends are going to be hot this year. What do you think? Will there be something that outdoes chevron, burlap or heaven forbid or beloved Mason Jars?

Only time will tell so for now, let’s get the creative party started. I can't wait to see what you're going to share.

COLOR INSPIRATION: radiant orchid - pantone color of the year

If you keep up with the design and printing world, you have probably already heard that Pantone’s 2014 color of the year is Radiant Orchid. If you’re not familiar with this annual-global-trendsetting event, here’s a brief overview. Pantone is the industry leader in color science - you may be familiar with the Pantone Matching System (PMS colors) or have seen the Pantone color wheels or color chips. The system allows designers to match colors regardless of the printing system and also carries over into paint, fabric and other industries.

So without further ado, here’s the beautiful Radiant Orchid.

“While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society. An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”

Etceteras: recipe organization

Organizing: Covered Recipe Binder via homework | www.carolynshomework.comWith the new year always comes a wave of cleaning, purging and organizing. I’m not sure what it is that brings that out in some of us but I’m going to ride that wave for as long as I can. I haven’t had time to tackle some of the larger organizing projects, like cleaning out my closet {sigh… I’ll need a full weekend to tackle that mess} but I did get one little project done and I’m thrilled with the end result.

ETCETERAS: a winter centerpiece

Winter Centerpiece via homework | carolynshomework.comI failed so miserably with Christmas décor this year that I had to do some post-holiday winterizing. Between my new day job and being away almost every weekend at my son’s volleyball tournaments we just didn’t have time to haul out the Christmas décor. Add to that the fact that it’s been almost 80 degrees here in Southern California and I almost feel like it wasn’t the holiday season.
