Happy Monday everyone! I’m so excited to share this project with you. This is another craft I’ve been eager to try. Gold leaf seems to be all the rage and I finally got some gold leaf sheets and tested out the technique. What fun!
I wanted to achieve a natural look for my gold leaf. As if the concrete had natural flecks of gold running through it.
So here’s what I started with. I scored these concrete planters at the dollar store. These were $1.99. One of my favorite dollar stores has very few items that are actually a dollar but I find fantastic things there so I don’t mind.
I read the directions carefully and used Mod Podge to adhere the gold leaf. I dappled Mod Podge here and there where I wanted the gold leaf. You then pick up a gold leaf sheet using wax paper and press it on. Once it’s stuck, use a soft paint brush to brush the excess away.
You can see how delicate the gold leaf is. It brushes away where it’s not adhered very easily.
I bought two of these planters and I think they’ll be perfect to start off fall decorating.
I added a few sprigs of greenery from the garden and some twigs but I’m thinking some beautiful branches of winter berry will look amazing.
Thank you so much for stopping by.
P.S.
What a elegant transformation for a dollar store flower pot! Do you also use Mod Podge to seal the gold?
ReplyDeleteThis pot looks great. Who doesn't like gold leaf. Well for me a new thing to try I haven't tried to use gold leaf before, but now with your inspirations it will be on my list of things to try. Thanks for sharing your project.
ReplyDeletePlease join me at my blog for my newest project. How to take plain picture frames and make them into ornate shabby chic frames. I hope to see you there.
